Artist Statement
Peace. From the bluest summer sky with their reflections in mirrored water to the winding country roads, that is the serenity of the east end. My paintings portray the images of less public spots that I loved so much growing up spending summers in the North Sea area of Southampton. The nature, the light, the smell of salt air and honeysuckle is all the inspiration I need to put brush to canvas.
I paint primarily in water-soluble oil, a wonderful transition from acrylics which is how I started. I am a self-taught artist, so my process, if I can actually say I have one, is to get outdoors find a scene that makes me feel that spark deep inside, then I jump right in and paint. I don’t sketch, I never have. I just block my colors and go.
I am driven and always inspired by the talents of local artists probably more so than old masters. The Long Island artist community is a special place full of extraordinary people and I am happy to be a part of it.
